Julia Bayard and Allison Dolder McDonald

Heels or flats?
J - Depends on the occasion. Since moving to SF, I wear flats every day to work, run errands, etc. However, I would rather die than wear flats out. I’ve done it only a couple of times and it was traumatic.
A - Flats. My husband is only 3 inches taller than me, and when we met in college over 8 years ago, I really let my heels game come to a dead halt. Since Julia and I started the blog (Jan 2012), I have been more and more shamed by my lack of grown-up shoes, and have forced myself to invest in more heels!

How many pairs of shoes do you own?
J - Oh probably 40?
A- Samesies!

Favorite shoe in your closet?
J -  My favorite daily shoes are my pink suede driving loafers from Paris. I feel so chic in them. My favorite fancy shoes are probably my grey PVL suede cut out heels. I feel so cool when I wear them!
A - My vintage cowboy boots (a killer find at Newport Beach vintage store Swellegant), and my new glitter-heeled stunnas!

Current shoe crushes?
- I have been having impure thoughts about Dolce Vita’s Jordanna boots for months now and am SO ready to pull the trigger on them!

How do you store/display your shoes?
J - My shoes are currently out on long racks along the side of my closet as I always need to be able to see my options
A - I would love to get some tips on attractive elevated rack-type shoe storage. My zapatos officially live in a white cube situation that’s supposed to be high enough for my dog not to reach, but somehow she gets her paws on at least one pair a day!

If you could be a shoe style, what would you be and why?
J - I would be a stiletto boot- total badass!
A - Pointy-toe flat. Final answer! They are the chicest flat by far, and they don’t inhibit me from scurrying around at warp-speed, which I do the majority of the time (I have run people down before by accident!)

Why do you think women
gravitate towards shoes?
J - I think shoes have the ability to completely transform an outfit whereas a blouse needs other elements to be transformed.

Dream shoe wardrobe?
J - Oh Olivia Palermo of course. Her collection of Nicholas Kirkwoods are envious enough!
A - Jenna Lyons, fo sho. Her shoe racks should be the 8th Wonder of the World.

Hope you all enjoyed this Shoe Story as much as I did, and don't forget to visit Tartan & Sequins to see more of Julia and Allison's fabulous shoe finds.

Wardrobe Staple: The Camel Coat

A camel coat is a cold weather must for all women of style substance. Style bloggers show us how it's done by combining the classic with rich colors and wearing it with both weekend and work wear ensembles. One of my favorite things about this classic coat is that whether you pair it with boyfriend jeans or Louis Vuitton it still looks equally chic.

Coats are investment pieces, so it's important to make sure you find something in a quality material that will stand the test of time and weather. Luckily, camel color coats are classics in themselves, so you can buy something with trend worthy details like leather sleeves or motorcycle inspired zippers and still where it for winters to come. While Max Mara camel coats are known as the ultimate, there are plenty of more budget friendly bets for your wallet.

I have to admit, my coat closet is a see of black, but I'm determined to change that very soon. What do you think, have you added camel to your coat repertoire yet?

Style Crush: Carole Radziwill of Real Houeswives of New York

Hi, my name is Chelsea, and I'm a BRAVO addict... To say I'm a little sad I won't be watching a new episode of the Real Housewives of New York tonight is to say the least. So, I thought I'd take a moment to reflect on the rock princess style of one of this past season's newest and coolest "housewives," Carole Radziwill

Carol Radziwill is an accessory idol for "cool girls" everywhere. Her ability to create elegant but unique looks comes partly from mixing in luxe little somethings. Cashmere beanies, fingerless leather gloves, classic aviator sunglasses, and crossbody Louis Vuitton handbags are among some of her signature accessories. Her leather jacket collection is pretty insane as well.

Carole Radziwill inspired accessories:

Carole Radziwill's clothing doesn't dissapoint either.  She has access to the best vintage in New York city and casually mixes statement coats with basics like white tees, jeans and ankle boots.

For night, Carole brings rocker edge in an outfit that could be deemed conservative by 'bringing it' in gold lame. Her look on the right mixes a long cotton dress with a low scooped back to make casual chic look sexy without effort. And she never forgets to pile on the bling with layered necklaces and bracelets, of course it doesn't hurt that one of her besties is jewelry designer Ranjana Khan

Carole Radziwill inspired clothing options:

NOVEL NECESSITY: Erickson Beamon "Gold Digger" Ring

Erickson Beamon's Gold Digger gold-plated Swarovski crystal ring $460

Who can resist a finger length Swarovski crystal scorpion ring with a name like"Gold Digger"? Not I! A unique jewelry piece like this Erickson Beamon ring is sure to get noticed and act as an instant conversation starter. The burnished gold adds an antique touch and the scorpion adds just the right amount of attitude. The best part about it is that it is hinged so moves with your finger. Final opinion: This novel necessity adds a sting of chic to any outfit.

Wear It Now - The Varsity Jacket

With the World Series going on in San Francisco, it's fair to say I'm feeling a bit sporty. As far as I'm concerned the collegiate cool look of varsity jacket is a fashion statement we all need to welcome into our repertoire this fall.

Not only do varsity jackets have a "too cool for school" look when casually worn as a cape, but they are a great way to toughen up a classic ladylike ensemble. A white and gray varsity jacket looks unexpectedly uptown chic and a dark bodied baseball jacket adds downtown edge.

Whether you want to keep it classic and go for a solid two toned varsity jacket, or add a little flair with a patterned body, there are plenty of options to choose from. Personally, I'm kind of dying over this men's knit bomber jacket  - I'd wear it over something sleek and slim to play with proportions. What about you?

QVC Presents FFANY Shoes on Sale

I know I seemed to have drop off the face of the blogosphere, but no worries, I'm alive! I've been in New York for meetings the past few days, and Tuesday night I was fortunate to attend QVC Presents "FFANY Shoes on Sale" to support breast cancer research.

QVC Presents "FFANY Shoes on Sale" was held at the breathtaking Waldorf Astoria and packed to the brim with fashionable guests. It was hosted by Nicole Richie and speeches were given by a number of people including Tory Burch and Vince Camuto. The shoe salon was a thing created by heaven: Giuseppe Zanotti, Christian Louboutin, Fendi, Tory Burch, Stuart Weitzman, Pour la Victoire, and so many more - all on sale with proceeds going towards breast cancer research! By the time I arrived the size 9s were few and far between, but I did pick up a pair of fabulous Tory Burch wedges (see below). To get in on a little charitable shoe shopping of your own, head on over to the  QVC website.

What does one wear to a party among the most fashionable names in footwear? I chose a LBD by Acne, which I'm obsessed with, and paired it with uber comfy B Brian Atwood pumps (which served for some meetings as well as the event). I wish I had more pics of me, but these dorky mirror shots are it. So, there you have the secret behind my magical disappearing act. Now I'm looking forward to rejoining the land of the blogging;)

It's About Time for Howl-O-Ween

Halloween is around the corner, and although I won't be dressing up this year, I'm thinking about getting my kicks in by finding a cute dog costume to parade my Chopper around in.

For me it was a l-o-n-g work week, one that continues tonight when I catch the red eye to New York. I was able to put press releases and product launches out of my head for a few minutes to laugh at some adorable and completely ridiculous dog costumes online. Among my favorites not shown are Bacon Boy and Doggy Dorothy. So, what do you say about pet costumes: Doggy Do or Doggy Don't?

Suit Up in Head to Toe Prints

Head to toe prints? Bold graphic suits? For work? I don't know... But, if you're a supermodel a fashion editor or an uber blogger they just may work for you! Geometrics and pops of color may be the first thing that comes to mind when you hear "head to toe print", but there are plenty of other patterns that deserve equal play.

Tropical prints are an unexpected choice for fall, but paired with a black shirt the slim neon palm print suits add an unexpected element. And hey, it's never too early to start thinking about spring (or at least resort)! This Clover Canyon look is my current crush for tropical feeling suit separates.

What's old is new again. I'm in love with this romantic suit that combines florals with a Baroque type of pattern. The high collar blouse and cat eye sunglasses add extra cool to the look. Try an of the moment Rag and Bone tapestry inspired seperates to re-create such a look.

And of course, if head to toe prints still seem too daunting for your everyday life, throw a tailored black jacket on over it all and call it a day.

SHOE STORIES with The Now Stylebook

Heels or flats? I look better in heels but feel better in flats. So heels. Haha!

How many pairs of shoes do you have?
About 70 {not counting flip flops or sneakers}

Favorite shoes in your closet?
So tough. I’d have to say right now, my Stella McCartney croc pumps and my Valentino studded flats which btw were the find of the century. I found them last year on the sale rack for 65% off and only available in my size. It’s like they were sent from the heavens by the shoe gods. Haha Oh and I cannot live without my Havaianas flip flops!

If you could be a shoe style what would you be?
A bootie. They are so cute and bring a little bit of edge to any outfit.

Favorite footwear brand?
I love Steve Madden and Jeffrey Cambpell for super trendy styles that will only be around for a couple of seasons. But, I have a weakness for expensive shoes like Charlotte Olympia, Christian Louboutin and Nicholas Kirkwood. I aspire to afford more of those and lots and lots of Alaia’s.

Current shoe crushes?
Any fall shoe from Nicholas Kirkwood, every Burberry Prorsum bootie style, Alexander Wang Kolfinna boots, the Tory Burch fox smoking slippers and Alice and Olivia Dina Pumps. Oh and the Chloe studded Susan boots. I’ve lusted over them for years!

Dream shoe wardrobe?
Leandra Medine {aka The Man Repeller} without a doubt, any of the Courtin Clarins girls and of course, Carrie Bradshaw.

How do you store/display your shoes in your closet?
The casual, everyday ones are lined up along the floor in my closet {err…my half of the closet} and then I keep the nicer shoes in their boxes on a shelf above my clothes. I have them in alphabetical order by designer. Oh my gosh that’s embarrassing. I’d say storing them in boxes is the way to go if you are working with a small closet.

Why do you think women gravitate towards shoes?
I think putting on a pair of fabulous shoes can change your mood completely. They are just magical little things that can make a woman feel hotter, taller, skinnier and therefore more confident!
