Happy New Year! Wishing all of you a safe and festive celebration this evening. See you in 2013 ;-)

Not So Basic Beanies

beanie fashion

I'm a hat gal, and for Christmas I received a cobalt blue beanie, which I have yet to take off my head despite being a bit smurf like. A bright beanie is anything but basic and an inexpensive way to jazz up winter wardrobes. Since one of my new year's resolutions is to add more color into my closet, I plan on getting a neon orange beanie next for some additional pop.

If a neon hat isn't up your alley, you can always go for an extra thick, uber cool, knit beanie a la Miroslava Duma. This kind of cap fights some serious cold while working to convey your inner alternative kid.

Enchanting Holiday Window Displays

It's my favorite time of the year, Christmas! And this means that department and specialty stores are all dolled up with enchanting holiday window displays. While we are all hustling to finish our shopping etc I wanted to take some time to admire some  magical holiday windows.

Selfridges, London
selfridges christmas windows
Visionary Bruce Weber created my favorite, the windows of Selfridges in London. Based on the idea of a lavish childhood fantasy that a department store comes to life late on Christmas day and is filled with unlikely happenings.

Harrods, London
This year Harrods' holiday windows have a Disney theme and feature beloved characters such as Cinderella and Pocahontas dressed by a fabulous designers. Above, Repunzul lets down her hair in a dress by Jenny Packham

Tiffany & Co., New York
Christmas Window Displays
What lady doesn't love a little blue box under the tree? Tiffany's windows have an aura of understated  elegance. Scenes representing the idea of coming home for the holidays on the Upper East Side highlight beautiful jewels.

Galeries Lafayette, ParisHoliday Windows
To honor Galeries Lafayette's history of travel, Louis Vuitton designed the holiday windows of the Parisian flagship store this season. Exotic animals and dolls mingle with vintage Louis Vuitton luggage to create a mystical display.

Wishing you all a happy weekend filled with holiday cheer:)

What I Want Now - Sequin Blazers

Once again, I've allowed selfish shopping compulsions to cloud my last minute online Christmas shopping. And this year I've decided I want - (scratch that, I need) - a sequin blazer.  I actually can't find a single good excuse as to why I don't have one in my closet already; they are sassy, sexy, rocker and sophisticated. i.e. PERFECT

A silver sequin blazer paired with a skirt and heels is a welcome alternative to a cocktail dress.

You can never go wrong with not so basic black.

Channel your instant rock goddess when you throw a sexy sequin blazer over a casual tee.

Icy blue sequins take jean cut offs to the fashion extreme. And of course the Chanel doesn't hurt;)

So now that we've all agreed we must own a sequin blazer, have a look at the ones I'm shopping. A few have my head in the clouds but luckily there are also plenty of options that keep my feet on the ground and cash in my bank account.

Heels or flats?
Jimmy Choo Motorcycle bootsIf I’m being honest flats, although my short legs look considerably better in heels.

How many pairs of shoes do you have?
50 give or take.

If you were a shoe, what style would you be and why?
I think I would be a lanvin ballet flat, classic and modern at the same time. They’re seemingly low maintenance, but still fancy.

Favorite shoe in your closet?
RED Valentino Bow Sandals. I got them this past summer and I literally wore them almost everyday. (Note: Shown on Ashley in the top middle picture)

Most expensive shoe in your closet?
I saved up money from my first retail job in college bought a pair of Jimmy Choo Motorcycle boots. They’re definitely one of my go to pieces and I love styling them in unexpected ways.

Current shoe crush?
I have a major shoe crush on Rebecca Minkoff’s Mabel Strappy Booties. I NEED them.

Why do you think women gravitate towards shoes?
I think shoes are an instant mood boost. They’re easy to style and always fit : )

How do you store/display your shoes in your closet and do you have any tips for keeping them in good shape?
I keep all of my shoes in my hall closet organized by season, type, and color. It makes it a lot easier when I’m rushing in the morning! I also use Protect Your Pumps on my more expensive heels to keep them looking new.

Dream shoe wardrobe?
Either Olivia Palermo or Blake Lively.

Gals aren't the only ones who rush to see the goodies inside their stockings in the morning, get the guy in your life some stocking stuffer goodies to help keep him entertained throughout the day. For the adult boy in your life look for drinking accessories, gadgets, toys and novelty food to score big points in the stocking arena.

My favorite part of Christmas morning has always been opening stockings. I also love shopping for stocking stuffers. Something about finding a myriad of little joys while eating breakfast gets me every year. There is still some time left to order online, so have at it. Oh,  and did I mention the best part? Almost all of these stocking stuffers are $25 or under (so they also make great little gifts for friends!).

Already Obsessing: Rachel Roy and 3.1 Phillip Lim Pre-Fall 2013

Just as this year's fall clothing goes on sale, I'm already obsessing on the fashions emerging in pre-fall 2013 collections. In particular, I'm drooling over Rachel Roy and 3.1 Phillip Lim , which I would wear respectively to work and on the weekend (if my wallet would permit).  Have a look...

rachel roy pre-fall 2013

Rachel Roy pre-fall 2013 is the perfect combination of sleek fashion sensibilities and ladylike fabrics and detailing. Roy's interest in developing countries, including Kenya and Haiti, was shown through artisan detailing such as gold plate embellishments. I'm kind of dying over every look above. See more Rachel Roy pre-fall 2013 on style.com.

3.1 Phillip Lim pre-fall 2013

The pre-fall 2013 3.1 Philip Lim collection channels downtown cool girl with an uptown girl sensibility. Lim was inspired by vintage Harley Davidson, which can be seen through his use of the phoenix emblem and paneled skinny pants. His signature sweatshirt dressing also made a strong appearance and I anticipate seeing them on fashion trendsetters such as Taylor Tomasi Hill.  See more 3.1 Phillip Lim pre-fall 2013 on style.com.

Are as twisted as me and already anticipating next fall's fashions? Do you have a favorite pre-fall collection?

Velvet Underground

When I think back to my childhood holidays, I often reminisce on the fabulous dresses my mother put me in. So often these fab little holiday numbers included velvet fabric or bows, so naturally, I'm hankering for some of the soft, sensuous, jewel toned velvet clothing that re-emerged this fall.

If you are only going to invest in one item of velvet clothing, make it a velvet blazer. It's a  holiday season staple and can take you everywhere from weekend errands to a cocktail party with co-workers. Personally, I love the look and feel of a velvet maxi skirt and am thinking of snagging this on sale T by Alexander Wang. I'd pair it with a white t-shirt, my favorite vintage jean jacket and some moto boots. Have a look at some of the awesome velvet clothing below, which makes a perfect addition to winter wardrobes.

24 Hours in New York

Hi all, the past couple days have been crazy, to say the least, and I am suffering from a serious case of jet lag. That being said, I love going to New York and I love my job, so some dark circles under my eyes every now and then are totally worth it. Below are a few pics from the spring fashion preview event  I was in New York for.

Big Apple Bound

no sleep in the city

I'm headed off to New York  for 36 hours (shortest cross country trip ever)! I'll be helping host a preview event put on by the PR Agency I work for. We'll be debuting the latest and greatest from brands such as Wallis, TaylorSays and Hard Candy Cases to fashion and accessory editors. It's always a bit intimidating when trying to decide what to wear when meeting with fashion editors, but I try to always stay true to my personal style. Below is a peak at what I'll be wearing, I think;)

Holiday Gift Guide: Coffee Table Books

My favorite fail proof holiday present to both give and receive is an intriguing coffee table book.  Perfect for an employer, book club buddy or a mother-in-law, a present containing beautiful illustrations won't go unappreciated.

Wardrobe Staple: The Plaid Shirt

Good news! Plaid shirts aren't just for playing in a pumpkin patch or tooling around Home Depot anymore.  Get creative and let your favorite plaid take you from day to night. Just have a look at how some savvy style bloggers add a little plaid to their lives.

plaid shirts, street style
1. For a holiday fete, dress up a bright hued plaid shirt with a sequin skirt like Krystal from This Time Tomorrow
2. Keep things cool without getting cold by layering your plaid under a shirt and leather jacket like Blaire from Atlantic-Pacific . Just the collar and cuffs peaking out is a great surprise.
3. Go all out like Man Repeller's Leandra and put on your highest heels and longest skirt to make plaid glam.
4. Have a model moment; combine a traditional plaid shirt with sleek black pieces and ankle booties. Image via
5.  As Rachel of Pink Peonies shows us, don't be afraid to pair plaid with polka dots. The unexpected pattern combo makes a cute casual statement for a day date.

Chances are you already have one or two  plaid button ups in your closets, but if you don't, it is time to get shopping! Plaids are out there in tons of creative color combos. I myself like to stick to the classics (seen below), but if you want to put a little more color flair into your look check out these by Rubbish  at only $44 your could by a few:)
